What is Pokémon Elite Redux?

Pokémon Elite Redux is a challenging ROM hack based on Pokémon Emerald, designed for players who love strategic battling and team building without the grind. Its most unique feature allows Pokémon to have up to four abilities active simultaneously (switchable and innate), opening up countless new strategies and replayability.

The game features:

  • Multi-Ability System: Up to 3 switchable and 3 fixed (innate) abilities per Pokémon.
  • Enhanced Difficulty: Every trainer has custom competitive movesets and smarter AI. Multiple difficulty modes are available.
  • Massive Quality of Life (QoL): Zero grinding (easy EV/nature/ability changes, level caps, unlimited leveling), auto-healing, improved UI, infinite-use Poké Balls with 100% catch rate, and much more.
  • Expanded Content: Includes Pokémon from Gens 1-9+, Mega Evolutions, new Redux forms, over 500 new custom abilities, and rebalanced moves/items.
  • Customization: Choose starters from Gens 1-9 and all types, easily manage your team and items.

Essentially, Elite Redux offers a completely overhauled Emerald experience focused on challenging battles, strategic depth, and player convenience.

Where can I find a clean ROM?

We cannot provide links to ROMs due to copyright restrictions. You'll need to source a legal copy of Pokémon Emerald (Trashman) on your own.

How do I update to a newer version of Elite Redux?

Follow these steps carefully to update your game:

1
Save In-Game

Use the game's save menu (SELECT button). Do not use emulator save states. Saving inside a Pokémon Center is recommended.

2
Check Save Compatibility

Confirm if the update works with existing saves. Check the #updates channel on our Discord, or ask in #game-help if unsure.

3
Backup (Recommended)

Consider backing up your current .sav file and the old patched .gba file just in case.

4
Patch a Fresh ROM

Get a new, clean Pokémon Emerald (Trashman) ROM. Apply the latest Elite Redux patch using this website.

5
Match Filenames

Ensure the newly patched ROM file has the exact same name as your old ROM file (e.g., Elite_Redux.gba).

This allows the game to find your existing save file (Elite_Redux.sav).

6
Replace Old ROM

Place the newly patched ROM in the same folder your old one was in, replacing it.

Note

If the update is save-compatible, you can now load your game and continue your progress.

After patching, I get a .txt file instead of .gba. What should I do?
File

Sometimes, your browser might incorrectly save the patched file with a .txt extension.

Simply rename the downloaded file, changing the extension from .txt back to .gba:

Elite_Redux.txt Elite_Redux.gba

The file should then work correctly in your emulator.

I'm getting an error when patching
Error

Make sure you're using a clean, unmodified Pokémon Emerald Trashman ROM.

Do NOT use the already patched Elite Redux ROM. The patcher will verify the checksum to ensure compatibility.
